Some things about this email were huge signs that I should not follow through:
When I emailed him, I signed it with my name. When the email was sent back, he used part of my email address as my name. A credit check is also required before I walk through the place. If credit checks are required, they are usually only after you agree that you would like to move into the apartment, condo, house, etc. And lastly, there is no email address, physical address, or telephone number after his name and his company's name. Upon researching this company, I found no legitimate Capital Managements in Utah.

I just got the same email, but for a property in Irvine, CA (note that he signed it "DR Incorporated" this time around):

When I emailed him back asking a few questions he said he "wasn't comfortable talking online" (even though one of the questions was asking for a number to contact him).
I had the same response for property in CHICAGO and it was linked to postlets.com. My first red flag was that the email didn’t include any identifiable information about the property I inquired about through trulia.com.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, the property was listed for relatively cheap (beachside property fully loaded w/ amenities AND parking included) for $900… yeah too good to be true. And then "he" wanted a credit report, understandable considering the property that was listed BUT before walk through... and from a disreputable credit site. yeah, I don't think so.
I had the same generic email as everyone else but he's signing it differently.

Did anyone click the link and complete the application? My best guess is that he is attempting to get affiliate commissions, as an affiliate for creditreport.com - maybe, maybe not, what do you think? Is there anything else he could do if you completed the application.
ReplyDeleteUgh, I feel like a complete idiot. I definitlely signed up after he wrote back saying we couldn't proceed with the apartment without my getting the credit report. Like a complete asshole, I listened. Credit report.com charged me $15 a month, and apparently then sold my information to 3 other companies. Nightmare. Thankfully, these other companies are giving me my money back, but creditreport.com itself is not being as forgiving. SCAM. Is there anything we can do about this???
